Homemade Hard Tack Candy Recipe
Mix in saucepan until sugar is dissolved.
Homemade hard tack candy recipe. Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Cut it into bite size pieces with candy shears. Add the powdered sugar and shake to coat.
Use a meat mallet to crack the candy into pieces. Avoid the pain of burning your fingers by using a large baking sheet. Let sit a couple minutes and start cutting the pieces.

Heat over medium and stir until the sugar is dissolved. In a sturdy deep non reactive pot on medium heat add sugar water and corn syrup. Stir in candy oil and food coloring.
Store the candy in a tin or bottle. Butter the heat resistant surface you will be working on. Bring to a boil stirring occasionally.
This cooking task is not recommend for small children. You do not need to stir the it while it is cooking. Boil until it reaches 295 310 degrees fahrenheit on a candy thermometer.
