Recipe For Lentil Soup Using A Ham Bone
If using the cream let the soup cool for 30 mins or so then stir in the cream.
Recipe for lentil soup using a ham bone. Reduce the heat and simmer the soup for about an hour or until the lentils are tender. I find blending it until there is still some texture left in it best. For the lentil soup.
1 4 teaspoon ground black pepper. Rinse the lentils and place them in a soup pot. 1 ham bone or 1 large ham hock 6 cups water or vegetable or chicken stock low sodium or unsalted 1 1 2 cups dried lentils brown or green 2 cups carrots 3 to 4 medium carrots.
Put the ham bone carrots water lentils celery onion sugar pepper salt and bay leaf in a pot. Salt pepper to taste. Sliced 1 cup celery chopped 1 cup onion chopped 2 teaspoons salt.
Break or shred the ham and stir into soup. Remove the ham bone. Set aside to cool.
To 1 hour until lentils are tender. Bring to a boil. Cover pan and bring to a boil then turn down heat and simmer covered for 1 1 2 hours.
When cool enough to handle remove any meat and cut into bite size pieces. In a large stockpot combine the water and ham bone. Bring to the boil and simmer for 30 40 mins or until the lentils are soft and cooked.
